Straight answer first

Repair it, or replace it?

A new door is the bigger ticket, so here's where we'd tell you not to buy one. Five situations we get called out to, and what we actually say.

Your situation
What we'd tell you
One dented section after a bump
Repair
If the rest of the door is sound and the section is still made, we swap that panel and you keep the door. A reversing-car dent is not a reason to buy a whole door — plenty of people are told otherwise.
Door works, but it's loud and slow
Repair
Rollers, hinges, worn bearings and a balance adjustment. That's a tune-up, not a replacement, and it's a fraction of the cost.
Bottom section is rusted or delaminating
Replace
Once the bottom section has gone soft it won't hold the bottom brackets safely, and the sections above it are usually the same age. A single-panel repair here is money spent twice.
Hit hard enough to bend the track and two panels
Replace
Once the frame geometry is out, a patched door never runs right again. If it's an insurance job we'll itemise the quote so the claim is straightforward.
Nothing's broken — you just want it warmer and quieter
Replace
This is the honest upgrade case, especially for an attached or west-facing garage. An insulated door is quieter, stiffer, and takes a real bite out of the afternoon heat coming through into the house.

What a Hutto garage actually needs

Two things shape door choice here more than anything a brochure will tell you: which way the garage faces, and what's on the other side of the wall.

West-facing garages take a beating

A bare steel door pointed into a Central Texas afternoon behaves like a radiator from about three o'clock onwards. If the room behind or above the garage is a bedroom or an office, you feel it. On those houses an insulated door earns its money in comfort long before anyone argues about the energy bill. A detached garage you only keep the mower in is a different calculation, and we'll say so rather than upsell you.

Builder doors, ten to twenty years on

A lot of Hutto's housing stock went up between the mid-2000s and the late 2010s, and the doors that came with those homes were specified to a builder's budget: single-layer steel, light-gauge hardware, basic track. They're not defective — they've simply had their run, and by the time the second spring goes and a section is dented, replacing beats repairing. This is the most common new-door call we take in Star Ranch, Glenwood and Country Estates.

Match the street, not just the house

Most Hutto subdivisions run a narrow set of looks — long-panel or short-panel steel, sometimes a row of top windows, sometimes carriage-style overlays on the newer Riverwalk and Hutto Crossing builds. If your HOA has a written spec on colour or panel style, we work to it. Nobody wants the letter.

What the quote covers

What "installed" means here

  • Measured on site, not over the phone — opening width and height, headroom, backroom and the state of the jamb, because those decide what will actually fit.
  • New track, rollers, hinges and brackets — a new door on twenty-year-old track is a false economy and we won't quote it that way.
  • Springs sized to the finished door — an insulated door is heavier than what it replaces, so the counterbalance is calculated for the new weight, not carried over.
  • New bottom seal and perimeter weatherstrip — the part that keeps the grit, the rain and the odd Williamson County scorpion out.
  • Opener reconnected, re-set and tested — travel and force re-learned for the new door, safety reverse checked in front of you. If your opener is struggling under the new weight, you'll hear it from us straight.
  • Old door removed and taken away — including the track and the hardware. The driveway is swept before we go.

New-door questions

How long does the installation take?

A standard single or double residential door is a one-day job — old door and track out, new track and hardware in, sections stacked and aligned, springs wound and balanced, opener reconnected and tested. A custom size, or a rotten jamb that has to be put right first, can add a day. You'll know which before we book it, because the quote is done on site.

Do I need a new opener too?

Not usually. A healthy opener reconnects to the new door and carries on. The thing to watch is weight — an insulated door is heavier than the single-layer door it replaces, so an already-tired unit can struggle. We test it under the new door before leaving and tell you honestly if it's on borrowed time, rather than bundling one in by default. If it does need doing, see opener repair.

Is insulation actually worth it in Hutto?

If the garage faces west, is attached to the house, or has a room above it — yes. An uninsulated steel door in a Central Texas August turns into a radiator all afternoon, and that heat goes straight through the wall it shares with the house. If it's a detached garage you only use for storage, a non-insulated door is a perfectly sensible way to spend less.

Can you match my neighbourhood's style?

Yes. Most Hutto subdivisions use a fairly narrow set of looks — long-panel or short-panel steel, sometimes a row of top windows or carriage-style overlays. We bring the options, and if your HOA has a written spec on colour or style we work to it.
